Hey, fam!!! it’s Kira.
Kira Stone is a composer, lyricist, songwriter, playwright, performer, and music producer fueled by the rhythms, rhymes, and songwriting technique of pop music, and rooted in the storytelling of musical theater.
At 15, Kira began songwriting, writing and recording her first single, "Peter Pan", (600k+ plays on Spotify, Sirius XM Radio, iTunes Top 20).
Kira now creates new musical projects that combine her prowess of pop music and its many subgenres, and her passion for theatrical storytelling, writing ravenously about the force of the female experience through pop songwriting technique. Current projects include SALEM (a new musical about the accused women and the accusers of the Salem Witch Trials), Built For This (a new musical inspired by the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team and their takedown of the biggest sexual predator in sports history, book by Lauren Gunderson), Revival (a new musical fever dream//reverie//rhapsody about Joan of Arc), & WIDOWS, a thriller//dark comedy musical in 1950s suburbia about a secret society (i.e. coven) of killer housewives (book by Matthew Greene), as well as several new musical projects in development. Kira is also the creator and founder of The Pop Collective (produced by Ari Conte), a community of 100+ songwriters and composers in New York City actively creating music that fuses pop songwriting technique and storytelling.
Kira’s musical work has been developed and presented at the Shubert Artistic Circle Fellowship, Playwrights Horizons, Goodspeed (Festival of New Musicals), ASCAP Musical Theater Workshop, NAMT, The Lucille Lortel Theater, The Orchard Project, Circle in the Square Theatre, The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, New York Stage & Film, Olney Theater Center, New World Stages, Fault Line Theatre, New York Musical Festival (R.I.P.), New York Theatre Barn, University of Michigan, University of Southern California, the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, and 54 Below. Awards include: ASCAP Foundation Cole Porter Award (*first woman to ever win), Vanguard Arts Award (Olney Theater Center, Built For This), NAMT Frank Young Fund Award, Diderot AiR Grant (Chateau Orquevaux, Revival). Residencies include: Vineyard Arts Project, The BringAbout (Brooklyn), Chateau d’Orquevaux in Champagne, France (2x). Finalist: The Kleban Prize (2024), American Music Theater Project at Northwestern (SALEM (2x), & Built For This), The Orchard Project Performance Lab (SALEM, 2x, received the following year for Built For This), Lucille Lortel 121 Project (SALEM, won the next year for Built For This), Rhinebeck Writers Retreat (3x) (SALEM, 2022; Built For This, 2023 & 2024), The Civilians’ R&D 2020-2021 Group (Built for This), Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project, New Dramatists Composer-Librettist Studio, Fault Line Theatre “Irons in the Fire” (2021, Built For This; 2023, SALEM). Semifinalist: O’Neill National Music Theatre Conference (2x) (Built For This & WIDOWS, 2024), Vanguard Arts Award (Olney Theater Center, WIDOWS; won the previous year with Built For This), NAMT Recommended Musical (Built For This & WIDOWS, 2024).
In TV/Film, Kira has worked as a songwriter, music producer, and vocalist for Sesame Street & PBS Kids.
A Bay Area, East Coast, & Nashville native, she now currently resides in Brooklyn with her husband and two daughters.
Kira is also a proud member of The Dramatists Guild, ASCAP, The Recording Academy, Actor’s Equity, & Maestra.
